A startup company dealing with risk approached hexegic® after outgrowing their initial, start-up-orientated IT infrastructure. The nature of the business exposes it to a considerable threat level and there was a concern that this was not adequately mitigated. There were also significant availability, resilience and scalability concerns. hexegic® were asked to provide guidance and recommendations for an infrastructure design that would allow the cyber security risk to be appropriately managed. hexegic® successfully designed and delivered an infrastructure that has both significantly improved the cyber security of the company and supported an aggressive expansion.

Another start-up company were concerned about the integrity of their infrastructure and processes. The issue they faced was that any compromise to their infrastructure, inputs (source code, third-party binaries and so on) or outputs would fatally compromise the integrity of their product. The company had identified a potential solution and employed hexegic® in a consultancy role to validate their approach. The analysis conducted by hexegic® clearly demonstrated that the proposed solution was not viable; the company were prevented from wasting a considerable amount of time and money.

A large UK charity was interested in verifying the robustness of its cyber security posture and as such hexegic® offered to conduct a free Cyber Security Risk Assessment as part of our social responsibility programme. We believe strongly in contributing to a strong society and as such like to offer our services for free to organisations in the third sector wherever possible. At hexegic we are well versed in the phrase “adapt, improvise and overcome” (with its origins in military strategy). Generally, we prefer not rely on such a mantra as so much in cyber security can be foreseen and tested with a proper Cyber Incident Response service rather than rapidly improvised. However occasionally we are called into action on incidents where we have no prior visibility and as such this mantra becomes our approach.

In our Awareness Training and Incident Response work we consistently come across two issues; no-one thought to train temporary staff, and none of the bosses took the time out to get trained. The reality of the situation is these two groups of people are often the most vulnerable and thus can be the weakest link in your cyber security chain. Educate them and instead they can become one of your most valuable assets.
